STCA taking the lead...
The Scottish Terrier Club of America has taken an important step in addressing the decline of AKC registrations of Scottish Terriers over the past 20 years. STCA President Lori Kelly has formed a task force to factually examine the decline in Scottie numbers and to take a thorough look at the current status of our Breed. Co-chaired by Marcia Dawson, DVM and Michael Bishop, PhD, the Committee is made up of the following talented STCA members: Lisa Kincheloe, Kristen Simmons, Whitney Shafer, Lisa Hills, Barbara Gibson, Karen Prokopetz and Michele Geiger-Bronsky. The Committee’s first objective is to collect data and examine the causes, contributing factors and consequences of the decline in Scottie numbers. The next phase, soon to be underway, is to use polling techniques to engage a wide and diverse population of Scottie owners and breeders, thereby contributing their knowledge and experience to the process. The final objective is to propose realistic strategies to the STCA for preservation and advancement of the Breed, and to help lead the Breed and the Club into a strong and healthy future. The areas of data collection, investigation and polling include:
The Committee will bring an interim report to the STCA Board in late summer and will present its final report to the membership during Montgomery County week, October 2017. Click on link below to preview a graph of AKC Data: Questions? Please contact Lori Kelly by email (This email address is being protected from spambots. STCA PAWS FOR JUNIORS - News from Sueannette Maniscalco - PAWS is headed to Coventry, England!PAWS For Juniors is looking forward to an exciting year, starting with our participation at the Scottish Terrier Breeders & Exhibitors Assn. Conference in Coventry, England next month! PAWS and the STCA are supporting the Juniors' portion of the conference and helping out where we can. We want to be able to help any Scottish Terrier Club in the world either with set-up of their own Juniors' program or add information to an existing program. We will also be there to learn from other organizations. There will be many PAWS supporters on hand to promote how STCA PAWS provides grants and scholarships to our young members. We will also show individual clubs how they can set up a fund for a junior for assistance with entry fees and other expenses related to showing a dog in order to lessen the cost to families. The 2017 Raffle starts at Rotating! We are offering a Scottie Ballerina doll and a Scottie figurine. Both items have been donated. On July 9th PAWS is having a fundraiser, an exhibition of Margaret Kirmse art with brunch at the Green Dragon Tavern in Carlsbad, CA. We are staying in touch with several young people who are showing Scotties in Breed and Junior Showmanship. Look for interviews and photos in the Bagpiper! For more information on the STBEA Conference (www.stbea-event.co.uk) or STCA PAWS programs please contact Sueannette Maniscalco This email address is being protected from spambots.
